How do I donate?
Good news! We are fiscally sponsored, so every donation to our group is fully tax deductible and directly helps us continue presenting great works to Manhattan and beyond. At Middle Sibling Productions, we breathe life into plays that have slipped through the cracks, while keeping community building at the forefront of what we do. Our primary goals are to break down barriers to theatre participation, and to renew interest in largely-overlooked plays that are ripe for rediscovery. MSP’s Meetup Readings welcome anyone who is interested: actors, amateurs or beginners. As a producer and presenter of theatre, we are committed to the belief that everyone deserves a chance to be heard. From our community-based outreach to our educational programming and our staged reading series, we are committed to giving everyone a voice and letting their stories be seen and heard.
We started back in the summer of 2022 with the realization that most current theatre productions present the same 20-30 plays on a constant loop. Though there are always new works being developed, they often end up being forgotten after a few years in favor of the accepted canon. We wanted to find a way to present some of these neglected plays in a way that includes our members at every step. This way our community can finally see themselves represented on stage and give everyone a chance to participate in this art form that we hold dear.
Over the past three and a half years we have hosted over 150 events, presented plays to over 1,000 members, and received over 300 five-star reviews. Many of our participants talk about the communal feel of our group, along with the wealth of new plays they are exposed to at little or no cost. At present we are one of the longest-running and largest communal theatre groups across the entire city.
While we provide all of our programming for free or at low cost, almost every part of what we do incurs a financial obligation. Since we believe in full honesty and transparency with our members, we are attaching here our upcoming year’s budget overview. In summary: Each staged reading costs about $1,500, and we need to spend over $800 a year for online subscriptions alone. As costs continue to rise, and as we aim for true pay parity for our actors and crew, we expect expenses to grow significantly in the coming years.
As with many theatre companies, a large portion of our income is based on grants and ticket sales, but we will always rely on the help of our members and sponsors to fill in the remainder. The donations we have received so far have allowed us to compensate our artists, build out an extensive library of scripts, and raise our programming to ever greater heights.
Your generous donation will allow us to sustain what we are doing and to grow into the next stage of our company. All donations are fully tax deductible and directly support our mission. Every donation, no matter how large or small, can help us move forward. A donation of $3 a month can cover our research into new plays, and a donation of $10 a month can help maintain our script database. All donations are carefully monitored and logged by our Executive Director and reviewed quarterly by our executive team.
Donate in whatever way you can, and help bring theatre back to the people!
